Other Ways You Can Help
Help us feed our hungry cubs!
We always need donations of food for our bear cubs. in the late summer of each year, we collect fruit at various locations. In the fall, we ask for acorns and hickory nuts to feed the cubs.
If you have apple, pear, oak, or hickory trees, you can help us by collecting the fruit or nuts and taking them to the Village Market in Townsend. The Village Market is very generous in supplying us with their out-of-date produce during the months it is needed. They have a barrel in the store, where you can deposit your fruit or nuts to help ABR. Due to Tennessee TWRA regulations, the public is not permitted to deposit donated items at the facility.
In 2009 we housed 23 cubs with voracious appetites. They consumed as much as 3 pickup truckloads of produce per day! There are still 8 cubs wintering with us and we are also preparing for new arrivals in 2010. Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
If you are an educator or a children's group leader you may be interested in our Adopt-a-Cub program. Or, you may simply wish to have your class/group collect acorns and hickory nuts for the cubs, as a service project, without an "adoption."
