Volunteer For ABR!

Appalachian Bear Rescue (ABR) is always in need of volunteers. We seek those who want to help the overall mission of ABR which is to (a) rehabilitate orphaned and injured bears for release to the wild; and (b) to educate the public about black bears and the regional threats facing them.

As a volunteer-driven organization, we need committed volunteers for various projects throughout the year. ABR is actively recruiting dedicated individuals who support the mission although we must point out that volunteering does not offer access to the bears for the obvious reason that these bears must remain wild with limited exposure to humans. Furthermore, Tennessee law prohibits us from exhibiting the bears.

Even though access to the bears is not possible, ABR members and volunteers can take great satisfaction in knowing that they are actively working to ensure the survival of orphaned black bear cubs.

ABR volunteers enjoy the following activities:

(a) Staff ABR booths at conservation events and at other public events

(b) Assist at special events

(c) Assist in distributing materials for ABR

(d) Enjoy meeting new people and educating the public about appropriate human/bear interaction

(e) Gain satisfaction from knowing that they are contributing to the welfare of the American Black Bear
